Terry Kilrea will be registering as a candidate for Councillor in Ward 7 on Friday August 13 2010 at 1:30 pm at Ben Franklin Place 101 Centrepointe Drive.
Kilrea is disgusted with proposal to turn Grant School in to a Francophone centre and says it is an insult to all taxpayers of Ottawa who own the property at present.
The numbers of 28,000 francophones west of Bronson are skewed and the logic they have no where to get services in French is a blatant misrepresentation of the facts.
The Franco group also wants housing, retirement home, bank and a library, etc for Francophones only!
There are bilingual retirement homes in Ottawa.
Their claim that francophones can’t retire in a french setting is nonsense.
This stinks of pandering and social engineering.
The final figure of $ 60 Million is ludicrous, not to mention sheer lunacy!
No public money should be given period!
The group that wants it should fundraise and pay for it.
There are hospitals, banks, libraries and many medical centres west of Bronson avenue that are open and available to every resident, regardless of language.
There is a Service Canada at Lincoln Fields Shopping Centre also that provides service in French and English!
Why would any consideration be given to this ridiculous idea?
Why should Ottawa taxpayers give a grant of $1.9 Million and other levels of government $60 Million?
Bay Ward is in desperate need of a Multi Purpose Centre that would include a Seniors centre, ice pads, gymnasium, etc that could be used by all members of the community, not just a select group.
Why would we discriminate?
It is very refreshing to see how other community centres have been built and not by handouts or a sense of entitlement!
Greek- Hellenic Community Centre
Lebanese- St. Elijah Church
Ukrainians- Ukrainian Hall
Italians- St. Anthony’s
As Councillor for Bay Ward Kilrea will oppose this proposal at every opportunity and do everything possible to scuttle it and give Bay Ward the Multi Purpose Centre that can be used by all the residents and taxpayers of Ottawa regardless of language.
KilreaI will also oppose any more Public Housing in Bay Ward whether it be French,English or other. Bay Ward has too much social housing at present.
We can not maintain our stock now.
Why build more?
Crime is still evident with recent shootings and stabbings on Ritchie St.? (Public Housing)
Kilrea does not support current LRT proposal.
It will come in at minimum $ 1 Billion over estimate!
NCC parkway was never an option!
